BYC Members Become OBEC Instructors
Get Real, Get Safe
BERLIN CENTER, OH – The Berlin Yacht Club is proud to announce that two members, Brian Duchon and Dan Markowitz, have recently obtained their Ohio Boating Education Course (OBEC) Instructor certifications. Brian and Dan both successfully completed the rigorous requirements to become certified instructors through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Parks and Watercraft. This certification allows them to lead official OBEC courses, equipping fellow boaters with essential knowledge of Ohio's boating laws, safe operating procedures, and emergency response techniques.
The Berlin Yacht Club recognizes the importance of boating education in reducing accidents and ensuring responsible use of Ohio's waterways. By increasing the number of certified instructors and licensed boaters within its membership, the club aims to offer more accessible and convenient OBEC courses to the local boating community.
Brian Duchon expressed his enthusiasm for this new role, stating, "I'm eager to share my knowledge and experience with other boaters and help them develop the skills necessary to navigate Berlin Lake safely and confidently."
Dan Markowitz added, "Becoming an OBEC instructor is a great opportunity to give back to the boating community. I look forward to contributing to a culture of safety and responsibility on our lake."
The Berlin Yacht Club encourages all boaters on Berlin Lake to consider taking an OBEC course. These courses cover a wide range of vital topics, including navigation rules, legal requirements, emergency procedures, and environmental awareness. Completion of an OBEC course may also qualify boaters for discounts on their watercraft insurance.
