Ohio law requires anyone born on or after January 1, 1982, who operates a boat with more than 10 horsepower* to provide proof of boater education. This requirement can be met by successfully completing an approved boating education course (classroom, online, or home study) or by passing a proficiency exam. Our NASBLA-approved classroom course, developed in partnership with ODNR, the U.S. Power Squadrons, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, provides a comprehensive learning experience with a minimum of eight hours of instruction and fulfills Ohio's boater education requirement.
